News on September 7: Analysts said that in the fourth quarter of 2021/22, the global sunflower oil trade showed a growth trend.

Oil World, an analyst agency in Hamburg, Germany, estimates that the five largest sunflower oil exporters exported 2.3 million tons between July and September this year, a year-on-year increase of 23%, with Russia, Ukraine and Bulgaria seeing the largest increases.

Ukraine is likely to export about 92 tons of sunflower oil in the July-September period, compared to 810,000 tons in the same period last year. During the same period, Russia may export 890,000 tons, compared with 620,000 tons in the same period last year. Bulgaria may export 220,000 tons, compared with 150,000 tons in the same period last year.

Next year's sunflower oil export volume will continue to recover. Global sunflower oil exports will reach 10.6 million tons in 2022/23, an increase of 8% year-on-year.

With a surplus of 4.35 million tonnes of rapeseed in Russia, up from 3.46 million tonnes in 2021/22, Russia could become the world's top supplier of sunflower oil. Ukraine could export 4.3 million tonnes of sunflower oil in 2022/23, down from 4.47 million tonnes in 2021/22.

Ukrainian sunflower seed exports may drop 29% year-on-year

News on September 7: The analysis agency APK-Inform said on Wednesday that if Ukraine continues to open the Black Sea port, Ukraine’s sunflower seed exports in 2022/23 (September to August) may be 1.1 to 1.2 million tons, compared with the previous year. The annual output of 1.63 million tons decreased by 29%.

But if ports are closed, Ukraine could prioritize exporting sunflower seeds over grains, with exports boosting to 3 million tonnes in 2022/23.

Ukraine has resumed exporting agricultural products from three Black Sea ports under a Russia-Ukraine agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey at the end of July. Before the conflict, Ukraine exported limited quantities of sunflower seeds because of domestic processing facilities and the fact that it was more profitable to export sunflower oil by sea than to export sunflower seeds. But with ports closed, rail has become an alternative export channel. Ukrainian traders have traditionally preferred to export sunflower seeds due to higher prices and stable demand in Europe.

APK-Inform said Ukraine's sunflowerseed production could fall to 10.7 million tons this year, down from 16.6 million tons in 2021. Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry said last week that farmers had already started harvesting sunflower seeds.
